Detail, Tuesday

Some of you asked for assistance in finding detail information on panel wall systems for facade: which included precast, translucent concrete, concrete panels etc.

Ideally, you can start with graphic standards by going to stone panel systems on steel frames and you will see the various dowel/ angle connections from the panel to the steel frame. If you have translucent concrete you may want to use a custom steel frame and clip system so they are not visible in any way. Detail magazine is best for this and the link below shows you are able to search the magazine via construction types for this is the way the magazine is issued.

You can also go to the manufacturer’s information for example for translucent concrete see the site below, under technical downloads. You can also call them for sample shop drawings.

In graphic standards- for curtain walls, look up structural fin or stiffener at window wall and you will see the frames which I have been speaking to most of you about regarding what is needed to support the curtain wall from lateral wind loads.

A large part of this semester is research and applying the concepts you research or hear from myself and the experts. More of this needs to happen from all you.

I have completed speaking to all of you about the elements of the scheme in terms of the organization lines of the plan and circulation. If these lines are right then they become the structure and enclosure lines so everyone should be in a good place.

In order for you to demonstrate to me you have an understanding of your projects the drawings should be graphically clear (poche) and material and joints lines  (a grid) should be indicated on the floor plans, elevations, and sections with the elevation beyond.

A lot of you do not have elevations beyond drawn in your sections but I expect these will be complete Tuesday.

Again, Detail magazine is the best resource then graphic standard because it gives you a range of custom design options. But for big picture standards getting to know what graphic standards also in the way of passive and active sections is important...
