Shammi Kapoor passed away at the age of 79 in Breach Candy Hospital at 5:15 am. According to the sources, he was on dialysis for the last few years and was undergoing the procedure at least thrice a week. He was on Saturday admitted to the ICU of the hospital.
He was the second of three sons born to the iconic Prithviraj Kapoor. His equally versatile actor brothers were Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. He was born on October 21, 1931 in Mumbai as Shamsher Raj Kapoor to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Mehra.
Shammi Kapoor married fellow actress Geeta Bali in 1955 and were blessed with two kids, son Aditya Raj and daughter Kanchan. Tragedy struck Shammi during the filming of his hit film Teesri Manzil when Geeta died of small pox. In 1969 he married Neela Devi Gohil of the royal family of Bhavnagar.
