Steam Punk Sculptures by Pierre Matter

The mystical french sculpture Pierre Matter has created some awesome sculptures combining mechanical technology with organic forms. His extreme amazing sculptures are made of stainless steel, bronze, brass, copper, steel. Pierre has been doing this for quite some time, almost a decade, and some of the sculptures are so heavy that they weigh around 1.5 tons, imagine that.

It honestly looks like he has used old junk and shaped in into amazing creations; you can find anything from fishes and sharks to horses and bulls. Something similar has been created by another artist. It’s just that he used steel to shape his sculptures.

Here is a selection of work from his online portfolio and store.

Retired and Old Superheroes

These life-like sculptures were created by the French artist Gilles Barbier. The installlation is called “L’Hospice”.

It seems that superheroes have finally grown old. Now they don’t fly around the cities taking out bad guys and saving the world. They while away at a superhero nursing home. Flabby Catwoman sleeps after the lunch, Mr. Fantastic limbs are overstretched, The Incredible Hulk rests in his wheelchair, while Wonder Woman stands by Captain America’s gourney.

Cute Monsters by Eva Funderburgh

Even though a bit sinister, I think these things are adoring! Eva Funderburgh is a ceramic artist located in Seattle, Washington. Coming from an education in chemistry and sculpture, she has focused herself on making strange whimiscal clay creatures. She works on exploring the colors natural to the clay and the finishing process of woodfire, and strives to present creatures that equally mix whimsy, mischief, and threat.
